I love this place and have gotten delivery from them multiple times (typically croissants, sourdough bread, and the occasional other item), but something's been off recently. The croissants have been smaller, my most recent order was wrong (got a chocolate croissant instead of a chocolate twist), and they've also stopped individually wrapping pastry items for delivery orders. I don't know if they've hired new staff that hasn't been trained adequately or what's going on.

It’s my favorite bakery in Chicago. Everything is delicious from sandwiches to pastries. Today I had the coconut rocher… just perfection in your mouth.

La Fournette was an incredible little bakery. Walk in and you get a “bonjour” right away, which honestly set the tone. Smelled amazing. Pastries everywhere on display, way too many good options to choose from. But I came for one thing. A classic Saucisson Sec Sandwich. Been chasing that since I had it in Paris. And yeah… this one hit. The baguette was exactly how it should be. Crusty, a little toasty, nice crunch when you bite in, but soft inside. The butter was simple but made a big difference, creamy and just enough to bring everything together. The sausage had that deep, cured flavor, a little salty, a little earthy. Then the cornichons cut through it with that sharp, tangy bite. Every bite had that mix of crunch, richness, and acidity, just done right. That’s what made it so good. Place itself is cozy, and the people working there were great. I’ll definitely be back… still thinking about those pastries too.

It’s the real deal! The owner and employees are French, and will welcome you in with a “bonjour”. Easily the best pastries I’ve had outside of Europe, and I’ve looked long and hard! The baguettes are delicious, too.

We were happy to find this cozy and pleasant pastry shop. It was a 50 min walk from where we were, but it was worth it to escape the boring and plain touristic options we saw around the hotels around the Loop. You open the doors and immediatly smell the aromas of good butter and flour. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We loved the croissants and we ordered a loaf of bread to take back to St Louis, and it tasted great next morning! The coffee is not the greatest, but it is ok.
